TAG Testing
If your child was nominated for further TAG testing (IDPFs for testing were due in November), the testing is scheduled to take place on February 3 and 4. The TAG Department will be sending testers to Atkinson on those days. If your child will be testing, please have him/her get a good night's sleep and eat a healthy breakfast before school on those days.
I do not know when scores will be expected back, but will post the information as soon as it is available.

Saturday Academy Classes
Three Saturday Academy classes will be offered for students starting in January. The cost will be $60 per student (half of the regular fee) in order to allow us to offer as many opportunities as possible.
Architectural Drawing and Modeling - CLASS IS FULL
Using the tools of mathematics and art, students create architectural renderings of houses and buildings. The class will introduce different architectural styles and the elements that distinguish them. As they draw, students will learn the mathematical and artistic skills of perspective and three-dimensional drawing. Foam core will be used to build a model of a dream home, school or even a Japanese Tea House.
Dates: Thursdays, January 15—March 4
Times: 3:10—4:40 PM . Grades: 4—5
Stop Motion Animation - CLASS IS FULL
Students will learn how to bring inanimate objects to life as they share ideas, create worlds, and simulate motion using toys, vegetables, cut-out puppets or any other ob-ject they can find. They will explore how image sequencing, incremental movement and frame rate impact the smoothness of stop motion animation. This class will give students the tools they need to make their own animated movies using animation soft-ware. The final product will be uploaded to YouTube for students to share with friends and family.
Dates: Tuesdays, February 3—March 31
Times: 3:10—4:40 PM . Grades: 4—5
Computer Graphic Art and Design - CLASS IS FULL
Computer drawing tablets act as an artist’s paintbrush to control the computer’s draw-ing and painting tools. Students will learn how to use these tools to design their own greeting cards, stamps, t-shirts or posters. Using hi-tech drawing and design software, they will turn their ideas into graphically artistic designs. Projects will combine com-puter technology with painting , coloring and collage to create bold and beautiful new designs
Dates: Tuesdays, January 13—March 3
Times: 3:10—4:40 PM . Grades: 2—3
If you are interested in signing up, please click this link. It will take you to an online sign up system. In addition, you will need to fill out a form for Saturday Academy. Payment can be given to Sonya in the office. Please be sure to get a receipt! Thank you!

Oregon Battle of the Books
The Oregon Battle of the Books (or OBOB) is a great way for students who love reading to work in teams and compete in a state wide competition. OBOB is open to 3rd - 5th graders and is run by school librarians. Our librarian, Jayme Wilkins, has been busy helping children find teams and get started. If your student is interested, please see Mrs. Wilkins for more information.
In the meantime, this link will take you to the 2014-2015 book choices and the OBOB page.
